After much prayer, and seeking wisdom from the men and women who help oversee Heights Church I have narrowed our vision down to Four main categories.
1.) Global Mission // It is my desire (and biblical command) that we focus on making disciples globally. In an effort to do this we will be prayerfully considering who Heights Church should partner with throughout the coming year. It is our prayer to find a global partner that we can continue to serve on an ongoing basis.
2.) Local Mission // Our vision to reach people locally is through the avenue of our Missional Communities. This coming year we have a great opportunity to start gathering at the YMCA. There are few places in our region that are as diverse as the Y! So we will begin praying for Heights Church to become a more diverse place of worship for all the various race and ethnicities in our culture. This is not something we will force, but it is something we will continue praying for and being aware of. This means we will be placing a greater emphasis on evangelism and outreach within our Missional Communities and within our weekend gathering.
3.) Discipleship // We are in the process of developing a new discipleship track. So I am currently researching and looking into a discipleship track to help create space to make disciples that will in turn make disciples so that we can continue reaching people locally and globally through planting churches that plant churches.
4.) Membership // We held our first membership process! This is a huge milestone for us as a church! First off, it shows people are coming lol, secondly, it will reveal who is committed to the mission of God through the ministry of Heights Church. I am currently designing the class which will consist of 4 weeks of classroom work, resources to be read, a membership interview, yearly pledge, and a membership covenant to be signed. Why go through so much? Good question! Because it is my responsibility to safeguard the church from wolves, and push us to do the best we can to make sure the church is a reflection of Jesus Christ.
As I remind us all the time… We try to keep things simple: Gospel, Community, Mission. Missional Community is the means by which we will make disciples and live on mission. And I am confident that these 4 areas of focus will be what God uses to “add to our number daily those who are being saved”. I am very excited about what God is planning to do in and through Heights Church over the next year.
All the money given will go towards helping fulfill this 2016 vision for Heights Church
